Ehon Azuma Warawa by Utagawa Toyohiro, C1940's
'Picture Book of the Children of Edo' - Two Volumes in Chitsu Folder
Two volumes bound with hand strung decorative paper wraps, each with hand written text to the spine and title label to front cover. Illustrated with twenty-five beautiful and bright colour plates over the two volumes, one volume with 17 pages of text and 13 plates and the other volume with 19 pages of text and 12 plates. Light rubbing and fading to the edges, otherwise all clean, sharp and in very good condition. Internally also very clean with slight age toning to pages. The two volumes are housed in a dark blue chitsu folder with skeleton design, two bone? clasps and paste down to spine. Browning to title label that also has a typo mistake: Warabe instead of Warawa, the folder also with light rubbing to the extremes, a few light marks and slight browning to the boards, as seen in photos. Overall a beautiful example.
Originally published in 1804 there was a facsimile edition produced in 1917 by Tosho Kankokei & Kikkawa Kobunkan. Our copy, which I can find no record, I would estimate to be C1940's or later.
